it's pretty much just getting 21:11:14:03them ready for this conference 21:11:15:15 tournament. 21:11:17:18you saw them up close and 21:11:17:27 personal two weeks ago calling 21:11:19:24two home games for oc sports. 21:11:21:12 when you look at this team 21:11:24:06heading into this tournament, 21:11:25:09 what do you see? 21:11:26:12what are you confident about? 21:11:28:18 what worries you about the 21:11:30:18 basketball team that still 21:11:32:03 3probably needs about two more 21:11:33:18 wins that hopefully need an tit 21:11:36:21win. 21:11:41:06 >> they play tomorrow night and 21:11:41:24again on saturday here. 21:11:43:00

areas of our game. 21:24:44:09she' a humungous contributor on 21:24:45:15 the boards and girls have 21:24:48:27definitely stepped up, pua has 21:24:50:15 stepped up. 21:24:53:06diane has had big minutes. 21:24:53:27 >> you've had big minutes. 21:24:57:09you've had big minutes in big 21:24:58:27 games in that when the three is 21:25:01:09needed either to catch up or to 21:25:02:27 inch worm away from a team 21:25:05:09that's threatening, you've come 21:25:08:03 through. 21:25:09:21you've hit 12 out of 25 and 21:25:10:03 those 12, you had one game four 21:25:12:03out of four, and so that kind of 21:25:14:06 offense really portends 21:25:16:27possibilities for this team. 21:25:20:06

match with us. 21:25:53:18we can start the game with a 21:25:54:12 quicker lineup, a smaller lineup 21:25:55:18and bring in pua and change the 21:25:57:27 tempo of the game. 21:26:02:15that's something that i think we 21:26:03:18 all know and we all know which 21:26:05:09lineups do what, so when they 21:26:07:06 come in the game, they know what 21:26:09:09their role is. 21:26:11:00 >> the team said you faced this 21:26:13:03year the most difficult time 21:26:14:24 that you've had with an 21:26:17:00opponent. 21:26:18:06 there are a lot of games and 21:26:18:24maybe some of them have faded 21:26:20:18 already but the team that you 21:26:22:21were impressed with the most? 21:26:24:00

so important for us. 21:26:59:18>> they were shocked. 21:27:00:21 at the end they kind of stumbled 21:27:01:27around going back to their 21:27:03:21 locker room. 21:27:05:00but that was a tremendous, 21:27:06:21 tremendous victory and i think 21:27:08:06it typified how this team can be 21:27:09:12 because everybody was raised up 21:27:13:09and playing very, very well. 21:27:15:03 now at the end, without mia, 21:27:17:06without the great double-double 21:27:19:18 performances of jackson, 1,000 21:27:22:09points, more than 1,000 points, 21:27:25:06 month than 1,500 points and 21:27:26:211,300 rebounds, just a 21:27:28:21 storybook. 21:27:33:03it's a storybook career. 21:27:34:06

but you've had to accomplish 21:27:35:15your place within the conference 21:27:37:27 without her and you guys have 21:27:41:24been able to do it. 21:27:43:21 tell me about that. 21:27:45:06>> you know, we knew within the 21:27:46:09 week of her injury that she 21:27:48:03would be out for a while. 21:27:50:03 and coach beeman said she's had 21:27:52:21such a major impact on this 21:27:58:03 program, probably won't be 21:28:00:18duplicated for many years to 21:28:02:03 come and we owe it as a team to 21:28:03:21her to get her to the 21:28:05:18 tournament, you know, in these 21:28:06:27games she has to rest and 21:28:08:09 hopefully she can come back at 21:28:10:03that point. 21:28:12:06

but the longer we can let her 21:28:12:15rest and heal, the better her 21:28:14:15 chances will be to come back 21:28:16:15later in the big west tournament 21:28:17:27 or nit or if they get that nc2-a 21:28:19:06and she can come back and finish 21:28:23:24 her career out. 21:28:26:15>> you're the reigning defensive 21:28:28:12 player of the year. 21:28:31:03what the team is leading the 21:28:33:21 conference in almost defensive 21:28:35:09category. 21:28:37:00 to know people come and play the 21:28:37:09 university of hawai'i and they 21:28:39:0014 are afraid of facing that 21:28:40:09uh defense. 21:28:42:00

you said the tone for that and 21:28:43:00it's all a mindset. 21:28:44:18 how much pride do you take in 21:28:46:27that? 21:28:48:15 >> extreme amount of time. 21:28:50:00i know that if i get beat on a 21:28:52:03 play, they are there for help. 21:28:54:06they make me look good 21:28:55:18 defensively. 21:28:58:15coach beeman's defense system, 21:29:00:27 that's in me wanting to do 21:29:04:18anything to get the win. 21:29:06:15 but this team has really 21:29:08:09embraced defense, and a lot of 21:29:10:09 teams don't do that. 21:29:12:27they want to score points and 21:29:14:00 we've embraced defense and 21:29:15:15keeping teams under their 21:29:17:09

average and that's why we're 21:29:18:21able to win the games that we 21:29:20:06 win. 21:29:21:27>> the team this time of year 21:29:22:15 was very confident, heading into 21:29:23:24the defense tournament, slipped 21:29:25:15 up. 21:29:27:12you guys ran into a buzz saw 21:29:27:21 over there and struggled. 21:29:30:12how much are you taking that 21:29:31:27 experience and use it go to not 21:29:33:15be over-confident or using it as 21:29:34:27 fuel to the fire? 21:29:37:03>> i think we're still 21:29:38:03 confident. 21:29:39:06we're a very confident team. 21:29:39:18 we know what we have, what we 21:29:41:03bring to the table. 21:29:42:27

but at the same time we've 21:29:43:27experienced the tournament now. 21:29:44:27 you know, we have one under our 21:29:46:03belt. 21:29:48:03 this team has one under their 21:29:48:24belt and we know going to this 21:29:50:18 conference tournament what to 21:29:52:03expect, going to california, 21:29:53:15 playing an opponent school and 21:29:55:09trying to get that first win 21:29:57:00 under our belt and get the ball 21:29:58:21 rolling. 21:30:00:21 15we're the only team in the 21:30:01:03 conference that's played as many 21:30:02:09tournaments as we have. 21:30:05:03 we're very used to the back to 21:30:05:27back game. 21:30:07:15

if we can get the ball rolling, 21:30:08:03i think we'll do fine. 21:30:09:24 >> tell me about the coach 21:30:11:15because he has a personality 21:30:12:09 that other coaches really don't 21:30:13:21have. 21:30:15:06 i see other coaches, yeah, okay, 21:30:15:15they go through the motions. 21:30:17:21 but she not only goes through 21:30:19:18the motions, she supplies the 21:30:22:00 emotions. 21:30:25:24but i've seen her where she's 21:30:26:15 really upset, that kind of thing 21:30:29:03and to where she's very 21:30:31:06 supportive to how you guys are 21:30:32:27playing. 21:30:34:12 tell me about playing for a 21:30:34:27coach like that? 21:30:36:21

>> it's incredible. 21:30:38:21playing for a coach that's 21:30:39:27 emotionally involved, it's 21:30:42:00locked in as we are. 21:30:43:03 on the sideline if you see her, 21:30:44:18she' storming up and down, 21:30:46:24 talking to officials for us and 21:30:48:09she's so locked into the game 21:30:49:15 and what we're doing, it's hard 21:30:51:03for us to even lose folk. 21:30:52:18 you know what time it is. 21:30:54:15you know, her coming in after 21:30:56:09 the former coaching staff, it's 21:30:57:21such a change. 21:31:00:03 she brought this winning 21:31:01:03mentality. 21:31:02:15 her entire staff brought this 21:31:03:03winning mentality. 21:31:05:12

the team embraced it immediately 21:31:06:18and with that came our defense 21:31:08:18 and our progress as a team and 21:31:10:06where we are now, it's all due 21:31:12:24 to her and her staff. 21:31:14:24>> when you're on the floor 21:31:17:03 playing, it's not lady-like. 21:31:19:06i mean maybe that's a wrong way 21:31:24:09 to say it, but there's a lot of 21:31:26:1816 collisions and players hitting 21:31:29:03the floor and flying into each 21:31:31:06 other. 21:31:34:15i don't hear anything being said 21:31:36:12 but during over the course of a 21:31:40:00game, have you met a team with 21:31:41:18 players that are kind of, kind 21:31:43:21of start talking trash and 21:31:45:21

things like that? 21:31:48:03>> here in hawai'i we're -- we 21:31:50:00 don't talk on the floor. 21:31:52:15we just do. 21:31:54:06 and we let our game speak for 21:31:55:27ourselves. 21:31:58:03 a few teams we face, they have a 21:31:58:24little bit of chatter. 21:32:01:00 but if we get the win, it's, you 21:32:02:12know, it means nothing. 21:32:05:03 but the game itself is so 21:32:08:03physical. 21:32:10:12 we have our scout guys come in 21:32:10:24and every day they get -- the 21:32:12:27 women's game is very physical. 21:32:16:18it's seemingly more than the 21:32:18:09 men's. 21:32:20:06but we definitely, it's a lot of 21:32:21:24

collision and a lot of bumping 21:32:24:03into screens so it's a difficult 21:32:25:27 game, yeah. 21:32:27:18>> how are you physically? 21:32:28:21 >> um, i'm fine. 21:32:30:15>> no, because it seems to me 21:32:32:24 that, you know, you've gone down 21:32:34:09on the floor a couple of times, 21:32:36:15 slid into the opponents' benches 21:32:38:18a couple of times going after a 21:32:43:24 ball. 21:32:45:24is it because of our background 21:32:46:06 because when you were in high 21:32:47:15school you were such an athlete 21:32:49:06 in the weights, in shot putting 21:32:51:21and things like that that made 21:32:53:18 you strong? 21:32:55:09>> i think so. 21:32:56:18

i know track played a major role 21:32:57:00in who i am today as an athlete 21:32:59:15 and instills so many different 21:33:01:06things in you. 21:33:06:00 you're the only one out there. 21:33:06:24 you're runing a 400 meter race, 21:33:08:0317 it's just you. 21:33:10:06but my hustle on the floor, it's 21:33:11:03 for my team. 21:33:13:00nothing else. 21:33:13:27 it's to get the win. 21:33:15:18and by all means, if i have to 21:33:17:00 dive on the floor, if i have to 21:33:19:03jump on the other team's bench 21:33:21:03 to save a ball, i'll do that. 21:33:24:15>> tomorrow night against ucsb, 21:33:26:21

awesome. 21:33:55:15it's a really -- it's touching 21:33:56:06 actually because, you know, we 21:33:58:00were able to win a state 21:33:59:21 championship in high school. 21:34:01:18so to kind of culminate -- you 21:34:02:21 know, my last high school game 21:34:05:09was with her and my last home 21:34:07:03 game in college will be with 21:34:09:12her, so it's exciting. 21:34:11:06 >> what will you miss the most? 21:34:12:18>> i'll miss my team. 21:34:14:09 the uh athletics, the entire 21:34:15:18department. 21:34:18:18 it's been such a warm and just 21:34:19:03welcoming experience here. 21:34:21:12 i will miss my teammates 21:34:22:27because, you know, we build such 21:34:24:03
